In the centre of the Wealden village of Frant is the George Inn, two miles south of Tunbridge Wells. Built around 1750 the George has everything expected of a village inn – well kept beers, traditional English food with continental variations, oak beams, log fires in Winter, a large enclosed garden in Summer
Greg and Catherine Elliott, who run the George, were married in the village church, and their two children attend the local school. After taking over in 2006 they have made the George once again the heart of the community. They are supported by their two chefs; bar and kitchen staff are from the family or recruited locally
There is a regular menu supplemented with daily specials, bar snacks and a choice of Sunday roasts. The draught beer is Harveys, with other beers from local breweries. There is an interesting wine list by the bottle and by the glass. Meals are served in the two bars, as well as the restaurant.
The restaurant has also become popular as a venue for celebrations, parties and functions, with menus tailored to the occasion
The décor is enlivened by Catherine’s taste in bric a brac from her trawls through French markets and local car boot sales
Frant is bordered by Eridge Park and is on the High Weald Walk making it a popular stop for walkers. The pub has its own golf society, “the Gofers” and is a meeting point for local clubs. Winter is enlivened by the Monday night Quiz, special food nights, and darts.
